Betelnut Cafe

From the insane pink-ness of the ‘nice cream’, to the freshness of the shredded coconut, and to the incredible burst of tropical flavours from every component of the bowl, this was such a pleasant surprise to be treated to in the heart of Canggu, Bali. I really wished I had more space in my tummy for a smoothie because I sure would have splurged on that too! Ahh everything was so cheap!

The Chillhouse – Bali Surf and Bike Retreat

Now this isn’t a restaurant/ cafe/ bistro per se, but much rather a resort, kind of like a beach hotel. It was the most Vegan-friendly places I’ve ever stayed at, and, truly, one of my best experiences away from home. I’ve never felt more relaxed, rejuvenated and revitalised anywhere else in the world, and that is a huge statement to make. This was where, with the introduction of yoga and the quiet whispers of the sea in the distance, I became comfortable with food again after years of battling with eating disorders, and I must say that it must have been because The Chillhouse opened my eyes to delicious, nutritious food that will only do my body and soul good. There were creamy smoothie bowls, ‘crunchy’ chia parfaits, an abundance of fruits, crisp and moist pancakes (tasted better than they looked) and steamed veggies, potatoes and tempeh among many other delectable side dishes for dinner every evening. This place was great for recovery.

I’m smiling as I write about The Chillhouse. :’)

Can’t say too much about this since we were only passing by (rushing to some place! sigh!), but what I can say is that the menu definitely looked amazing — pancakes?! chia parfaits?! smoothie bowls?! fresh-pressed juices?! If anyone manages to try something out here, let me know how it goes! Have a great time! 😉

Bali has such an abundance of Vegan-friendly locations and, unfortunately, I couldn’t visit very many places during the short 3-day stint I spent there. I will certainly have to go back for more in the near future! 😉

For now, here are a couple more guides to Vegan dining in Bali:
